Train Smart. Race Fast. – The design development story of the Speedo Fastskin training aids
Chris Johnson presents the design development story of the recently released Speedo Fastskin training aids. Speedo identified an opportunity within the swimming product category to create a system of evolved high quality training aids to provide unrivalled comfort and performance allowing swimmers to focus upon smarter swimming in order to achieve their racing potential. The design story discusses the use of 3D scanning, hydrodynamic engineering and testing upon the world’s fastest athletes as methods used to overcome the challenges of designing products for use within water.
Chris Johnson is a performance sports design and innovation leader with over 19 years of international design experience working within design consultancies and in-house design teams, delivering first to market solutions for global brands. He currently leads the Speedo Hardgoods design team and is responsible for turning research insights into performance enhancing product experiences for swim consumers. Ten years within the Speedo Aqualab and Design departments has included the research, design, development and commercialisation of Softgoods and Hardgoods propositions within the swim and triathlon markets, spanning three Olympic product development cycles.
