Anthony Graves has over 30 years of experience in the manufacturing technology industry. His presentations at events including 3DExperience (SolidWorks) World, Autodesk University, Formnext, Rapid, and AMUG challenge people to confront conventional wisdom with a healthy dose of skepticism and inspire them to take the action needed to drive the industry forward. Before joining Dyndrite earlier this year as VP of Sales, Anthony held executive positions with HP, Fast Radius, and Autodesk, along with his own companies HSMWorks, and CIMCO. He also actively advises tech start-ups from early planning and mentorship to product, commercial, and sell-side advisory.
Additive Manufacturing (AM) has proven its value in certain industries but faces challenges in broader adoption. The medical field has shipped AM-produced implants and instruments for decades, while space exploration benefits from advancements in material science and additive technologies. Automotive, however, has yielded mixed results – ranging from F1 innovations to short-lived, heavily subsidized vanity projects. Rapid prototyping remains AM’s most consistent success. The key question is
whether AM can scale across all commercial sectors or remain confined to applications where part cost is effectively irrelevant. This talk examines the factors shaping AM’s future and explores why the most significant influence may rest not with machines or materials but with designers and engineers.
