Ben Wood is a Technology Transfer Specialist at WMG, working with fast-growing, innovative SMEs in the West Midlands to develop new manufacturing processes and products, some of which have appeared on the UK high street. His specialism is polymer processing including additive manufacturing, rapid tooling and injection moulding.
Based at WMG’s cutting edge International Institute for Product and Service Innovation, which is part-funded by ERDF, over the last two years Ben and the rest of WMG’s dedicated SME Team have worked with over 500 businesses and created more than 130 new jobs in the region.
Prior to his current role, Ben worked in pure research, developing novel sustainable composites for high performance applications, including the first (and probably last) motorsport steering wheel made from carrot fibre.
Ben holds a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Warwick and an Engineering Doctorate in high performance sustainable composites.
