How CAD needs to change with design

Why start a new CAD company?

The world has changed. Design teams that used to be under one roof are now spread across many locations. Problems accessing and sharing CAD have only become more frustrating.

In this session, Jon Hirschtick discusses how these seemingly insurmountable challenges can be tackled with a brand new approach — how fully leveraging the latest cloud/web/mobile technologies can improve the way we all design products.

Hirschtick shares what Onshape has learned from building a new full-cloud CAD system. Lots of CAD vendors are now talking about the cloud — and each has different visions about that means.

Hirschtick is a Founder and Chairman of the Board at Onshape. Holding a Bachelors and Masters from MIT, he has worked in CAD for over 30 years.

He was a Founder and CEO of SolidWorks, a group executive at Dassault Systemes, director of engineering at Computervision, manager at the MIT CADLab, a player and instructor on the MIT Blackjack team, and a professional magician.

He serves on the Engineering Advisory Board at Boston University and as an advisor to Magic Leap, Inc. and MarkForged.
